Ember: Igniting and Sustaining a Community of Equity Practitioners

Join us for an exciting in-person event now on December 12-14, 2023 at the Pew Research Center at 1615 L Street, Washington, DC!

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is deeply rooted in community. Yet DEI professionals often find themselves isolated, scapegoated, and marginalized from playing a significant role to drive systemic change.

The number of people committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in our organizations and society continues to grow despite backlash and resistance, and there is a pressing need to build a vibrant, purpose-driven community of, and for, aspiring and experienced practitioners.

What is Ember?

Ember is more than just a training program. It is a co-created, evolving, revolutionary experience that centers on collective learning and discovery, and a community for DEI practitioners to support and care for themselves and one another, to maintain momentum and motivation in their respective efforts.

About Us

MSM Global Consulting and True Change Associates have both been on the front lines of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts for the last two decades. Our two companies are dedicated to helping individuals and organizations navigate the complexities of lasting systemic change and infuse DEI principles and practices at the institutional level.

We have combined forces in this joint venture because we see a dire need for DEI practitioners at every stage in their career path to have a community for ongoing learning, growth, and support.

Programmatic Overview

Participants joining Ember will be part of a cohort of practitioners representing a variety of industries and fields. The cohorts will intentionally be created to be diverse and representative of a variety of perspectives and experiences to be shared.

The program is intended to be rigorous and intensive. In addition to exploring and applying research-based knowledge and skills, participants will develop community in their cohort by engaging in self-reflection and storytelling, giving and receiving observations, and providing feedback and coaching to one another.

Program Objectives

Ember seeks to build a thriving community of DEI practitioners who:

  • Are steeped in the foundational knowledge necessary to understand the true complexities of our work.

  • Are skilled in understanding human and organizational dynamics in order to adapt and design the best solutions for each context.

  • Are a loving resource for each other providing partnership, mentorship, coaching and inspiration to sustain our commitment, passion, joy, and possibility mindset.

Once participants complete the formal program, they continue to be part of an ever-growing community of DEI practitioners. Practitioners of one cohort will be invited to coach, teach, mentor, or contribute in other ways to future cohorts. In this way, we all continue to sustain ourselves and our colleagues in our work.
